Honda Aircraft Company opens facility in Greensboro, NC
Honda Aircraft Company, Inc., (HACI) has opened its new 369,000-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility at Piedmont Triad International (PTI) Airport in Greensboro, NC. HACI will manage research, sales, development, marketing, and manufacturing for its advanced light jet, HondaJet. The new manufacturing plant will replace the company's existing 32,000-square-foot hangar and office complex at PTI Airport. Once the plant starts full production, it will employ approximately 300 associates in all departments. Honda already possesses a $188 million North Carolina manufacturing facility near Swepsonville.
Ford to buy Romanian car manufacturing plant
Ford Motor Co. will buy a majority stake in a Craiova car manufacturing plant formerly owned by South Korea's Daewoo Motor. The U.S-based company has been interested in the Craiova plant, which employs as many as 4,000 workers and produces about 200,000 cars and 300,000 engines every year, for the past two years. Ford's European division plans to meet its growth projections with the addition of the manufacturing space in Craiova to its seven other plants. The other major competitors bidding for the former Daewoo plant were JC Russian Machines and General Motors Corp.
Brunswick Corp. to close Salisbury plant and open new plant in North Carolina
The Brunswick Corporation has announced that it will shift production of its Bayliner and Maxum cruisers manufactured at its Salisbury plant in Maryland to a new plant near Wilmington, NC. The transfer is expected to be completed in 2008 and will force the closing of the Salisbury manufacturing facility, eliminating 180 production and support positions. Brunswick will be offering outplacement support and assistance with job transitions to affected employees. The company will also offer Salisbury employees jobs at the new facility. Brunswick Corp. is the largest recreational boat maker in the world.
Sanmina-SCI hires senior executive for technology components group
Sanmina-SCI Corp., a leading global electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company, has appointed Walt Hussey as president of its technology components group. Hussey has had 25 years of broad-based manufacturing experience in different business environments. He earlier served as vice president of global manufacturing and distribution for Symbol Technologies, Inc., which was acquired by Motorola. Sanmina-SCI provides end-to-end manufacturing solutions to large OEMs in various sectors.
ADS starts operations at largest U.S. manufacturing plant
Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc., (ADS) a global manufacturer of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, has started operations at its largest-yet U.S. manufacturing plant. The plant was set up to meet rising demand for HDPE products used in highway construction. The $12 million plant in Gloucester County, NJ, will bring 100 new jobs to the area. Ohio-based Advance Drainage Systems, Inc., was established in 1966 and is the world's leading producer of HDPE pipe. The company employs close to 4,000 people and has more than 42 domestic and international manufacturing plants serving regions across North and South America.
