There are a million products that we make use of in our day to day lives. All of these products are available in different shapes, sizes and even brands. Manufacturing is the process of producing these products. This is the ideal career option for people who have a good understanding of risk taking and who can make the most of the current market situations.

There are companies that manufacture and market their own products while there are others who manufacture and sell them to the wholesalers who manage the distribution of the same products. For any kind of manufacturing, quality control is the primary thing that has to be paid attention to. Since this field mainly deals in the volume of goods produced, the manufacturer has to ensure that he is not compromising quality while trying to increase his level of production.

As a career option, manufacturing can be taken up in two possible ways. Either you set up a manufacturing unit of your own or you apply for work at one. In order to put up a new unit, a lot of research and development has to be undertaken. The first step to this research begins with zeroing in on the product that has to be produced. A detailed study of the kind of raw materials required for the manufacturing of the particular product, the technicalities of the process of its production, the kind of machines required, their maintenance, and most importantly the amount of capital required to set up a manufacturing unit is the stepping stone to this business.

Once all the initial details are taken care of, there is need for getting in touch with suppliers of raw materials who can supply quality raw material at the cheapest possible rates. The same kind of surveying goes into the buying of machines and other tools and equipment that will be required in order to carry out the production effectively. You will need to set a target production in mind on the basis of which you can calculate the number of people required to work in the unit. The quantity of labor is also dependent on the kind of machine and the level of manpower requirement for the production of that particular product.

There are a lot of regulations also that have to be taken care of before you start your operations. There are land and labor laws that have to be kept in mind. Also there are government regulations regarding the environmental hazards that your company will be causing if any. There are different commercial zones that are set up by the local bodies which have a concentration of such industries. Finding a place here and setting up a unit at such places is the most economical way to set up a factory because the factors of production like electricity, water and labor are available here easily and at affordable rates.

When all your requirements are in place and you know exactly how you will deal with meeting these requirements, you can go ahead and make a detailed business plan which will help you in getting your license and all the other possible documentation. For setting up a manufacturing unit, leadership skills and the ability to make the right decisions at the right time are basic necessities.
