A manufacturing planner job is available with any kind of a manufacturing organization. The main things to be considered are the required skills that suit the job of a planner in an organization. This manufacturing planner has the entire responsibility considering that the products made by the company are produced properly, they are cost effective and are of the right quality and also are ready for delivery in the stipulated time.

The responsibilities of the production planner jobs include forecasting of the future demands of the company products, taking part in the human resource planning and organizational planning activities. It also involves coordinating with the finance department of the organization. The manufacturing planners are also responsible for:

It is very important for a production planner to have an excellent problem solving skill. He should have the capability of taking right decisions under immense pressure. He should not be biased in this case with any employee working under him. It is also important for him to have great interpersonal and organizational skills as well as good communications skills. He should be very comfortable working with all the figures and also be able to work quickly, efficiently, and accurately. He should be keen to know about all the details. A production planner should also posses IT skills and should be well versed with the computer. A production planner should have the capability of understanding the manufacturing process and should also know his deadlines and be able to achieve them even under pressured situations.

The training part of the production planner jobs more often than not begin at the job itself. This training is usually carried out or taken up by more experienced colleagues. It is quite possible that the larger organizations may have management training schemes. These schemes are a combination of work experience and training in various parts of the organization. Having prior experience in this job is not mandatory. If you do not have an experience there are chances that you might have to undergo some extra training.

There are a lot of chances of getting promoted as a production planner after attending the training and getting well acquainted with different areas like quality control, supervision, etc. If there are experienced production planners having proper and suitable qualifications, they have a lot of chance of getting promoted to the level of a production manager. Sometimes it is also wise to change the employers over a period of time for better prospects. Sometimes changing employers can also lead to good promotion opportunities.

There is no fixed salary that is decided for these jobs. It all depends upon the work experience and qualifications of the production planner. The actual figures have greater chances of variance as they are also affected by the size of the organization and the nature of work. The production planners are also paid overtime if they are made to work after their office hours or in shifts.
