Position Overview:

A Marine Machinist operates multiple types of equipment used in the mariner machinist trade to allow for precision measurement, shaping, fitting and assembling of parts into mechanical equipment.

Ability to operate, setup and align various machinery and portable tools used in the mariner machinist trade

Ability to use precision measuring instruments used in the mariner machinist trade

Ability to shape metal parts to close tolerances

Ability to perform standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling feeds & speeds of machines fittings & assembling of parts into mechanical equipment.


US Citizen

Must be able to obtain and maintain Base Access

Must be able to pass a background check

High School Diploma or GED

Five (5) years of experience as a journeyman machinist working with shipboard machinery installations.

Apprenticeship as a marine machinist, military training programs certificate in related field, or has completed at least five (5) years of on the job training in addition to the minimum experience required below

Experience in performing the full range of machining operation on most types of conventional machine tools and their attachments.

Experience in machining various types of metals and other materials.

Experience with reading and interpreting complex blueprints and locate/extract critical dimensions and key reference points.

Experience in using many types of precision measuring instruments and equipment.

Must be experienced in the set-up and operation of various machine tools, such as: Lathe, Ironworker, Megapress, Milling Machine, and drill presses.

Experience in making alignments of work pieces and prepare work for fabrication.
