POSITION PROFILE:

Supports all manufacturing teams through the maintenance of all dies and fixtures to ensure productivity and zero PPMs.

Repairs and maintains dies in automatic press area.

Responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to quickly repair broken sections, weld broken sections, make punches and buttons, troubleshoot out of specification conditions, capping and uncapping dies when needed, heat treating small sections, making necessary repairs. This work will occur both in the tool room and the press. Works with outside vendors to coordinate and manage the repair of new and or broken sections outside the competencies of Knoll Muskegon.

Repairs and maintains fixtures in assembly and weld area.

Responsible for quickly responding to support assembly and weld areas requests; repair broken fixtures, troubleshoot out of specification conditions, making necessary repairs.

Support the design and launch of new programs.

Responsible for participating with Tooling Engineer to monitor, develop, and accept new tools in accordance with Knoll Muskegon die standards.

Maintain inventory of materials - consumables.

Maintain minimum and maximum inventory levels on all tool room consumables; punches, button, spring, shims, small die details,

bolts, washers, high maintenance die parts, specialty steels, etc.

Set up dies to support production.

Inspect, clean, repair, sharpen, and change over dies to blueprint specification.

Participates in standard job rotations.

Perform job rotation with team members to insure proper standardized work and ergonomic safety.

Perform routine maintenance on grinding machine.

Performs layout for dies, fixtures, and parts.

When making repairs or trouble shooting on dies, responsible for accurately measuring die and part angles, clearances, and tolerances.

Conducts problem solving utilizing preventative maintenance and quality documentation and records.

Recalls and analyzes data from preventative maintenance die data base to recommend design modifications, trouble shoot, perform predictive die maintenance, and verify past history.

Supports and participates in all changes to standardized changeovers.

Participates in all changes to standardized change over with fellow team members to insure ability to do the change over and gain the competitive benefits of continuous improvement. When needed, assists automatic press teams in efficient change over and start-ups.

Performs scheduled preventive maintenance work.

Works with all team members to conduct daily, weekly, and/or monthly preventive maintenance for tool room equipment. Follows all visual controls and takes action to correct situations outside of controls.

Performs all 5S housekeeping tasks.

Works to ensure work area is maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition at all times. Completes all regularly scheduled 5S checks. Assists in any 5S activity scheduled for assigned work area. Immediately alerts team members and team leader of all unsafe work conditions.

Participates as a member of the Tool & Die Team.

Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas of lack of cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader

and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues effecting cohesiveness. Actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Required Experience

High School, GED equivalent or equivalent combination of experience and training or education

Must possess a Journeyman Tool and Die certification card

Must have at least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment

Must have experience with hoists

Must be able to obtain a crane and powered industrial truck license

Must have experience with conducting LOTO

Working knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques, principles, and tools preferred

Must be able to work a reasonable amount of overtime
