Qualified individuals are invited to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position that will serve as the overall discipline lead and primary faculty member, overseeing all of the Degrees, Certificates, and Workforce Training efforts for the areas of Welding, Machining, and Manufacturing.

Role and Responsibilities

Serve as the primary contact for all programs within the Discipline

Implement the mission, goals, and objectives of the related degrees, certificates, and workforce training of the discipline into the curriculum.

Conduct on-going program assessment and develop plans to improve didactic and lab education.

Teach program courses both face to face and online.

Maintain current knowledge of the welding/machining/manufacturing profession and educational methodologies. Insure that units of instruction follow syllabi which clearly state measurable objectives, student activities, learning resources, time allotment, grading criteria, and student evaluation methods.

Work to identify, recruit, and retain qualified faculty for all degrees, certificates, and workforce training.

Organize and assign teaching workload for various classes and lab oversight, in consultation with the Administration.

Engage in professional development opportunities on emerging industry trends, technology, teaching pedagogy, curriculum development, or other related areas as needed

Serve as the primary Industry contact with related partners

Work to recruit and regularly engage Industry advisory board members to provide program updates, curriculum improvement assistance, and facilitate greater Industry participation

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree or minimum of six years related Industry Experience

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Relevant Industry experience related to the discipline with Industry Recognized Certifications or Credentials

Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, and Power Point;

Expected to learn and utilize the University of Montana learning management system for classes as well as grading and attendance;

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff

The ability to work and solve problems collaboratively and maintain a sense of cordiality in the workplace (Move to qualifications)

Knowledge of the relevant Industry Certifications associated within the Manufacturing sector including but not limited to; the American Welding Society (AWS), The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA)

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree, or expected completion within tenure probationary period

Knowledge of Two-Year Education and its mission and goals

Previous teaching experience within a secondary, post-secondary, or workforce training institution.

Current certifications or ability to obtain credentials through relevant recognized Industry standards, including but not limited to; the American Welding Society (AWS), The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA), or others.

Prior experience developing, modifying, and implementing curriculum and/or other workforce training
