Manufacturing Jobs Up, ManufacturingCrossing Reports 36,360 Employment Opportunities in the U.S.

Harrison Barnes, Chief Executive Officer of ERI informs, “We are witnessing a renaissance of manufacturing. This is accelerated by the shale gas energy boom. Cheap gas is making manufacturing more competitive, resulting in the creation of more jobs.” The Report on Business released on March 3 by the Institute of Supply Management also suggests that manufacturing jobs will spiral upwards. It shows that 14 of 18 manufacturing industries have reported growth in February. And growing industries typically require more workers. “Although technological improvements have automated many rote tasks, manufacturing is very much driven by the workers on the shop floor,” says Barnes. The manufacturing sector had showed a growth of about 7,000 jobs per month in 2013 and has added a whopping 21,000 jobs in the U.S. in January 2014, according to the Employment Situation Summary released on February 7. Similarly, the March 4 article titled, “Manufacturing in U.S. Expands More Than Projected: Economy,” published on the Bloomberg site, informs that jobs rose considerably in February. This is despite the fact that it was unseasonably snowy, and economic activity was disrupted for few days. As Russell Price, Senior Economist at Ameriprise Financial Inc. puts it, ‘Manufacturing remains a bright spot for the economy.’ Barnes is in agreement with this verdict.
